Incognitum is a film about the extinction, the re-birth and the future of the woolly mammoth; three stories that shed light on the strained relationship between man and nature. We wander across the thawing Siberian tundra in the company of ivory tusk hunter, Igor, and his grandson Vasily, as they search far and wide for uncovered remnants of the great mammoth. In laboratories in sodden Seoul and in snowed in Yakutsk, geneticist, Insung, researches the possibility of cloning the mammoth. In a small town in northern Canada we witness efforts to save an animal currently in very real danger of extinction, the polar bear. The film unfolds as a modern-day parable, in which science and mythology alternate, complementing and re-enforcing each other.
